Freescale Semiconductor has received global recognition for technology leadership, innovation and environmental sustainability across a broad spectrum of product categories, from telematics processors to general-purpose microcontrollers (MCUs) to analog battery-charger integrated circuits. Freescale’s MPC5121e microprocessor was highlighted at Telematics Detroit 2008 in May for significant contributions to the advancement of the telematics industry. The Freescale Flexis MCU family was recognized by three publications - Electronic Products-China, Electronique International and Portable Design - for its exceptional compatibility and innovation. In addition, the Freescale battery charger IC family (MC34671/3/4/5 devices) was identified by SemiApps.com as one of the greenest semiconductor designs in 2008.

According to data released Thursday by the NPD Group research firm, Sony has sold more than 405,000 PlayStation 3s in the U.S. in June, driven by the launch of “Metal Gear Solid 4.” Nintendo, meanwhile, posted another monthly home console win, selling 666,700 units of its Wii console in the U.S., according to the NPD data. Microsoft Inc. came in third for the month among the current-generation home consoles.
Comtech Telecommunications Corp. announced that its Tempe subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp, has acquired the network backhaul assets and the NetPerformer and AccessGate product lines of Verso Technologies for $3.9 million. Verso Tech’s IP telephony products and services are designed for businesses, government entities and mobile carriers and will be merged with Comtech EF Data’s subsidiary, Memotec Inc.
Gumstix Inc. has announced their selection of Texas Instruments’ (TI) OMAP35x applications processors for overo(TM), the next generation of Gumstix products. The products are scheduled to become available in markets in 4Q 2008. Gumstix’ new overo line harnesses the performance provided by TI’s OMAP35x processors. The combined experience, design skills and technologies of Gumstix and Texas Instruments will give open source innovators a small form factor, state-of-the-art ARM(R) processor platform that can run advanced multi-media application content.
